WiseUp is a subscription service available to eligible Telecel Ghana customers. Telecel Ghana may separately process information under its own privacy policy and mobile-service terms.
2. What information do we collect?
Depending on how you use WiseUp, we may process:
- your Telecel Ghana mobile number and technical identifiers associated with your access;
- your selected subscription plan, subscription status, activation and cancellation details;
- billing references, dates, amounts and transaction status received through the mobile billing process;
- information recorded during the subscription flow, including confirmation and consent records;
- technical information such as IP address, device type, browser, operating system, language settings and connection logs;
- information about your interaction with the WiseUp website and educational content, such as pages or resources viewed; and
- information you provide when contacting customer support, including the details of your enquiry.
We may receive information directly from you, from your use of the website and service, and from Telecel Ghana or technical and billing providers involved in activation, billing and cancellation.
We do not ask you to provide card details for mobile-billed subscriptions unless this is expressly stated in a separate WiseUp offer.
3. How do we use your information?
We use personal data to:
- activate and provide your WiseUp subscription;
- give you access to educational applications, articles, e-books, audiobooks, quizzes and other available learning resources;
- administer your selected daily, weekly or monthly plan and process recurring billing through Telecel Ghana;
- send service messages, including subscription, renewal and cancellation confirmations;
- respond to enquiries and investigate technical or billing issues;
- maintain the security, reliability and performance of the website and service;
- understand how the service is used and improve its content and functionality;
- detect fraud, abuse, unauthorised access and technical faults; and
- comply with legal obligations and establish, exercise or defend legal claims.
The legal basis for processing depends on the purpose. It may include performance of your subscription contract, compliance with a legal obligation, your consent or a legitimate interest that does not override your rights.
Your mobile number and information required for activation and billing are necessary to provide the subscription. Optional marketing or analytics processing will not be treated as automatically authorised merely because you subscribed.
4. Who may receive your information?
We may share necessary information with:
- Telecel Ghana and mobile-billing providers, to activate, bill, renew and cancel the subscription;
- technical service providers, including hosting, security, maintenance, messaging and customer-support providers;
- analytics or advertising providers, only where actually used and in accordance with the applicable cookie and consent settings; and
- courts, regulators, law-enforcement authorities or professional advisers, where disclosure is required or reasonably necessary under applicable law.
Service providers may access data only to perform contracted services and must apply appropriate confidentiality and security obligations. We do not sell your personal data to third parties for their own advertising purposes.
5. Cookies and similar technologies
WiseUp may use essential cookies and similar technologies to maintain sessions, remember necessary settings and protect the website. Additional technologies may be used for analytics, service improvement or campaign measurement.
Before publication, insert the actual cookie list here, including each provider, purpose, cookie name, duration and whether consent is required. Also insert the live method for accepting, refusing and changing optional cookie preferences.
Where consent is legally required, optional cookies and tracking technologies will only be activated after consent. You may also manage cookies through your browser, although blocking essential cookies may affect the website’s functionality.
6. International processing
US Cellcom is established in the United States. Data may be stored or accessed in Ghana, the United States or other countries used by WiseUp’s technical providers.
Before publication, confirm the actual hosting, backup and remote-access countries, the providers involved and the safeguards or approvals applicable to any transfer of personal data outside Ghana.
Any international transfer will be carried out in accordance with applicable Ghanaian data-protection requirements.
7. How long do we keep your data?
We retain personal data only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this Policy, including providing the service, maintaining billing records, meeting legal requirements, preventing fraud and resolving disputes.
Before publication, confirm and insert the specific retention periods for:
- subscription and account records;
- billing and transaction records;
- subscription-flow and consent records;
- technical and security logs; and
- customer-support communications.
After the applicable period, information will be deleted or irreversibly anonymised, unless a longer period is required or permitted by law.
Cancelling your subscription does not necessarily result in immediate deletion of every record. Information may need to be retained to document previous transactions, comply with legal obligations or deal with a complaint.
8. Security
We use reasonable technical and organisational measures designed to protect personal data against unauthorised access, loss, misuse, alteration and disclosure. Access is limited to people and providers who need the information for their work.
No internet transmission or storage system can be guaranteed to be completely secure. Do not share your password, verification code or other access credentials with anyone.
If you believe your account or personal data has been misused, contact info@playwiseup.com as soon as possible.
9. Your rights
Subject to applicable law and any lawful limitations, you may have the right to:
- request access to personal data we hold about you;
- request correction of inaccurate or incomplete information;
- object to certain processing;
- withdraw consent where processing relies on consent;
- request deletion or restriction where the legal conditions are met; and
- make a complaint to the Ghana Data Protection Commission.
To exercise a right, email info@playwiseup.com with the mobile number concerned and a description of your request. We may need to verify your identity in a proportionate way. Do not send your password or a one-time verification code.
You may contact the Ghana Data Protection Commission through its official website: https://dataprotection.org.gh/.
10. Children and age requirements
The WiseUp subscription requires the subscribing user to be at least 18 years old or otherwise authorised to incur charges on the mobile account. WiseUp is not intended to collect personal data from children for subscription purposes without the consent or authorisation required by applicable law.
If you believe a child’s personal data has been submitted without the required authorisation, contact info@playwiseup.com so that the matter can be reviewed.
11. Subscription cancellation and privacy requests
To cancel WiseUp, send STOP WU to 1042, dial *107#, or use the online cancellation page: https://playwiseup.com/
SMS charges may apply according to your Telecel Ghana plan. Cancellation and a request to exercise a privacy right are separate processes; if you wish to do both, state this clearly in your email to info@playwiseup.com
12. Changes to this Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy when the WiseUp service, data practices or applicable legal requirements change. The current version and its effective date will be published on the WiseUp website. Where a change requires fresh consent, that consent will be obtained before the relevant processing continues.
